VOLVO BREAKS GROUND IN SOUTH CAROLINA—
While the Pope was busy blessing New Yorker’s last Friday, the United States and Don Beyer Volvo were blessed with the groundbreaking of Volvo’s new factory in Ridgeville, South Carolina, located about 30 miles from Charleston.
It was nearly 40 years ago when Volvo first pondered the idea of a U.S. factory. At the time, it was slated to be built in Chesapeake, VA (much closer to Northern Virginia and Don Beyer Volvo). Due to a myriad of factors Volvo decided to build a truck plant in South Carolina instead. Now, after all these years, we will see a U.S. built Volvo S60 roll off the assembly line in 2018.

The new factory will provide much needed jobs in South Carolina where the unemployment rate is one of the worst in the country. It also will give us quicker access to Volvo’s groundbreaking new products that are proving to be not only the safest cars ever built, but some of the most fuel efficient and climate friendly cars, too!
