It’s Electrifying!

Volvo is always striving to be at the forefront. While they are already known for their giant leaps in safety, they’re looking to be leaders in quite a few different aspects. 2025’s focus? Electrified vehicles– one-million of them.

In its 2015 Sustainability Report, Volvo has outlined its goals to have one-million electrified cars by 2025 (alongside its goal to: impose climate neutral operations by 2025, move forward to zero deaths and serious injury in a Volvo by 2020, have 35% of its leading positions held by women by 2020, and to work with international partners to advocate sustainability). Among the one-million electrified cars, they are pledging to have a fully electric vehicle by 2019 (not too long from now).

In efforts to fulfill the one-million electrified vehicles, Volvo is looking to offer two hybrid versions of each model, and has been working on the readying process for the past five years with two newly developed vehicle architectures (Scalable Product Architecture and Compact Modular Architecture) that can integrate hybrid or electric car technology.

“The new commitment has been christened ‘omtanke’, which is a Swedish word that means ‘consideration’ or ‘caring’.”

Volvo’s commitment to sustainability reaches beyond the wheel, and into our everyday lives– they are working to reduce the negative impact of the business to bring positive change from improved environmental impact and social growth as a company, and within society.

Volvo currently offers the XC90 T8, which is the plug-in hybrid version of the award-winning luxurious 2016 XC90.

Hybrid Showdown: Volvo vs. BMW

Put head to head, Volvo outranked the BMW over and over…and over again. Sorry BMW, drivers don’t have the time for “inconsistent” and “strained.” In a slowly growing niche of vehicles, the Hybrid SUV, the XC90 T8 is proving to be the best of the best.

The look and feel of the XC90 T8 alone leaves the BMW X6 40e in the shadows. But what happens when you put them to the test? The XC90 stands its ground.

Pushing 300 bhp, (over the BMW’s 242bhp) we question its ability to stand up to its real hybrid appeal. The XC90 is the economical choice for you wallet, time, and mother nature.

As a DMV commuter, traffic has become a part of and sometimes dictates, our everyday lives. Crucial in our commuter-centric world, the XC90 bested the BMW’s 34.9mpg by almost 10 miles per gallon. And even after the battery has taken a toll, and is well depleted the Volvo still goes farther (with a more responsive powerful feel) than its German counterpart. Not to mention, after the battery, the Volvo is running in the 30’s while BMW is falls just below. (You see the pattern here?)

“The XC90 is, quite plainly, the more appealing product.”

What about space? Volvo has managed to finesse the on board drive battery in a way that allows to keep its seven passenger space, while the BMW only has room for five.

And If none of that was at all convincing, consider this– with the XC90 in your driveway you can sleep soundly knowing that its CO2 emissions falls significantly below the BMW’s 78g/km of CO2.

Here’s how the two stack up:

Volvo—Always Ahead of the Pack

Volvo nabs the title once more.
The season opening of the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) Race of France starts with Volvo rolling out the safest of the safe. Volvo’s very own V60 Polestar has been named the World’s Safest WTCC Safety Car (Safe-ity safe, safe).

The WTCC had welcomed Volvo Polestar as a manufacturer back in October 2015,  but the welcome is now an official partnership as the WTCC Official Safety Car.
What’s so special?
Equipped with a roll cage, rescue  and communication technology, and additional safety equipment, the V60 Polestar safety car will be manned by a driver and observer as the WTCC Safety Car, setting the pace on the racetrack during cautionary periods (racetrack obstructions, poor weather conditions, etc…). Volvo fans and motorsport viewers alike, can now watch the award winning Polestar in action in races all over.

The Volvo Polestar models give you the power, speed, and precision behind the wheel, without sacrificing the safety and peace of mind when driving a Volvo (alone or with the whole family strapped in).

Don Beyer Volvo Falls Church is your exclusive Polestar dealer in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. See our Polestar inventory here.

2016 XC90 Worthy of Thor’s Hammer — We Think So Too

All_New_XC90_Exterior_3As if there isn’t enough to love about Volvo’s XC90—fully equipped with its top of the line safety and convenience features, the XC90 exists as the real world embodiment of Volvo’s commitment to safety. So much so that Volvo has even gone as far as to vow zero deaths (and other serious injuries) by the year 2020—only five years from now.

Dan Neil highlighted the luxury SUV in his “Volvo XC90 T6 Inscription: A Luxury SUV Worthy of Thor’s Hammer,” published in The Wall Street Journal, detailing its automatic braking, safety and comfort conscious seat design, and ample space. Put up against the XC90, BMW X5’s 66 cubic feet of cargo space fizzles under the XC90’s 85 and the minimal space others provide don’t even seem worth mentioning (move over Range Rover, Jeep, and Mercedes).

Even the most critical car snobs fanned over the brilliance of this automotive dream, and thousands have taken their word for it. Folks are lining up around the corner to get behind the wheel—over 57,000 orders and counting across the globe. With a Don Beyer Volvo in Alexandria, Dulles, Falls Church, and Winchester getting an XC90 has never been easier.

Check out what else Neil has to say about the luxury SUV here.
